Frequently Asked Questions

Selling

Auction items are submitted for consideration by their owners then reviewed and curated by HammerDown Automobilia's in-house team of specialists. To start the process, register for an account, then simply upload your item/s to our website using our user-friendly template, or alternatively email us directly with your request. Our specialist Automobilia team will then evaluate your item/s for entry into our online sale. We endeavour for all accepted lots to be uploaded onto our platform within a month, however exact timings will be dependent on volumes and whether external review is required by a specialist to verify the authenticity of a particular item. Once your entry has been accepted, you will be asked to register on our secure site and provide us with your credit card details (so that we can pay you directly at the end of the auction). Then, simply send the item/s to one of our secure locations and our team will work on the detailed description and photographs for the lot to be entered directly into our online sale. All auctions will follow a 10-day format with the ability to set a reserve price.

We cannot guarantee that every item will be accepted in our auction. We are committed to offering only the highest quality items, and we do not accept reprinted or reproduction items, however we will give equal consideration to everything offered to us, without prejudice. Private and Trade sellers are equally encouraged to use our platform.
To provide buyers with the most accurate descriptions, we encourage sellers to offer as much information as possible when submitting a request, such as condition, history, or appearance. This is particularly important when offering a signed item for example, so that in addition to providing our own expertise and due diligence, we can also use the seller’s description to lend as much provenance to the item as possible.
HammerDown Automobilia will set the opening price after prior consultation with the Seller and discuss any reserve figure that we feel would be appropriate. We have extensive knowledge of the historic automobilia industry, and we can ensure that the opening, reserve, and potential sale prices are realistic and in line with current market values. Once a reserve price has been agreed, you may reduce it or withdraw it by written notice to HammerDown Automobilia, but you will not be able to increase it.
As all items will be stored in our secure locations during the auction period, buyers will not be able to view auction lots. We envisage that most of our bidders will be happy (and used) to purchasing at auction unseen, however certain high value items will be available for inspection on request. One of the key advantages of buying at auction via HammerDown Automobilia is the security of knowing that all items have been carefully vetted for authenticity and quality before sale.
Bidding on your own lot or ‘shill bidding’ is strictly forbidden. If we determine that you or someone on your behalf has bid on your Auction and it does not sell to a real bidder as a result, you will be responsible for covering all costs incurred by HammerDown Automobilia that have resulted from manipulating the results of your Auction Lot and your breach of the Terms and Conditions.
Once your Auction Lot has gone live on the HammerDown Automobilia site, you cannot withdraw your entry, unless with our prior written permission. If you do withdraw your item/s, you will be obliged to pay a withdrawal fee to HammerDown Automobilia in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, and as laid out in our Fee Schedule.
When your Auction Lot sells successfully, you will be notified immediately by email. You will be paid the full hammer price of your item/s without deductions in the currency listed on the Auction sale. The HammerDown Automobilia team will then pack and ship your item/s directly to the winning bidder on your behalf. The auction listing will then be moved to our ‘Sold’ section.

If your Auction Lot fails to sell on the platform or doesn’t meet the agreed reserve price, you will be notified immediately and will be given 48 hours from the end of the auction to either accept or reject the highest auction bid (if agreed with the highest bidder).

If you do not wish to accept the highest auction bid, the Auction Lot can be relisted after consultation between the Seller and the HammerDown Automobilia team, at no expense to the Seller.

If you do not wish to relist the item/s, the Auction Lot will be returned to you after payment of the return shipping fee.
